Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven purely by individuals wagering their own capital, theoretically leading to more accurate probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access, biases, or simply the dynamics of each market. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks.
