Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which may be influenced by factors like house biases or public betting patterns. While sportsbooks set initial lines to balance action, this market allows anyone to trade on their belief about which team will score first. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information or interpretations of team form, injuries, and other relevant factors. It’s common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbook lines as new information emerges.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular team, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market efficiently incorporates new information as traders react to news and updates related to team lineups, weather conditions, or any other factor that might influence the first goalscorer.

This market resolves around Oct 3, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on which team scores the first goal in the Newton Stewart vs. Johnstone Burgh match. The official match records will serve as the definitive source for determining the winning outcome. Any potential disputes will be assessed based on the official game statistics and rulings made by the relevant football authorities.

Several signals could significantly impact this market. Any news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either Newton Stewart or Johnstone Burgh would likely cause shifts in the odds.
