Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying levels of information and incentives. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. While sportsbooks may initially set lines based on statistical models and expert opinions, this market can quickly adjust based on new information or shifts in sentiment. It's common to see discrepancies, especially as the event approaches and more data becomes available, potentially offering value to informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each exact score. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market efficiently incorporates new information and updates its predictions as the match draws nearer. The current pricing reflects the aggregated beliefs of all participants on Polymarket.
