Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often aligning closely with sportsbook odds, but sometimes diverging based on unique information or sentiment within the prediction market community. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, potentially leading to different probabilities. If there’s a significant difference, it could indicate that prediction market traders possess insights not yet fully incorporated by sportsbooks, or vice versa. It’s a useful comparison point for informed decision-making.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each possible outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the likelihood of either Newcastle or Everton scoring first. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand – if many traders believe Newcastle will score first, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase.

This market resolves around Nov 2, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the market will determine which team, Newcastle United or Everton FC, scores the first goal during the first half of the match. The result will be based on official match data and verified against credible public sources. Any goals scored during stoppage time added to the first half will be included in determining the outcome of this market.

Several factors could influence trading activity in this market before resolution. Late-breaking news regarding player injuries or suspensions for either Newcastle or Everton could significantly shift the odds. Changes in team formations or tactical approaches announced before kickoff could also impact trader sentiment. Even weather conditions on match day, potentially affecting the style of play, might cause price fluctuations. Unexpected pre-match commentary from key analysts or managers could also contribute to movement in this market.
