Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often incorporating information and perspectives not immediately captured by traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, potentially leading to odds that more accurately predict the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or simply variations in opinion about the likelihood of each team scoring first in the first half. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information than sportsbooks.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether Newcastle United or Aston Villa will score first in the first half. As more shares are bought for one outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of those trading on Polymarket.
