Two professional basketball teams will face off, and the market determines which team leads at halftime. The outcome hinges solely on the scoring during the first half of the game, ignoring the final result.
This market resolves based on which team leads at the end of the first half of the designated professional basketball game. If the game is postponed but starts within 48 hours of the original time, the market resolves according to the official result. If the game is canceled or does not start within 48 hours, all markets resolve to a fair price. Only points scored in the first half count toward the resolution. The market includes three possible outcomes: New York wins the first half, Toronto wins the first half, or neither team wins (tie).
Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market’s prices are driven purely by supply and demand from traders. If a significant number of people believe one team has a higher chance of winning the first half than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Kalshi will shift accordingly. This can sometimes lead to more accurate predictions than traditional betting outlets, as the market aggregates diverse perspectives.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book, where traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a contract reflects the market’s collective assessment of that outcome’s likelihood. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy contracts for a specific team, the price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing mechanism ensures that the odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment.
This market resolves around Oct 14, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The team leading at the end of the first half of the New York vs Toronto game will be declared the winner for the purposes of this market. The resolution will be based on official game statistics and results, ensuring a transparent and verifiable outcome. Traders will be able to see the final result reflected in their account balances shortly after the game concludes.
Several factors could influence the price of this market before the game concludes. Any news regarding key player injuries or changes to the starting lineup for either the New York or Toronto team would likely cause significant movement. Unexpected weather conditions, or even shifts in public perception based on pre-game analysis, could also impact trading activity. Furthermore, large volume trades on Kalshi from informed traders could quickly shift the odds, reflecting new information or strategic positioning.
