This market assesses the potential margin of victory in an upcoming NHL hockey game between two New York teams. It focuses on whether one team will dominate the other by a specific number of goals. The outcome hinges on the actual game result and the difference in goals scored by the two teams.
The markets resolve based on the final score differential of the New York I vs New York R NHL game scheduled for October 6, 2026, with specific thresholds for victory margins. If New York R wins by more than 2.5 goals, the first market resolves to Yes. If New York R wins by more than 1.5 goals, the second market resolves to Yes. Conversely, if New York I wins by more than 1.5 goals, the third market resolves to Yes, and if New York I wins by more than 2.5 goals, the fourth market resolves to Yes. For all markets, if the game is postponed but starts within 48 hours of the original time, they remain open and resolve based on the final result. If the game is cancelled or does not start within 48 hours of the scheduled time, all markets resolve to a fair price.
Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective belief of traders. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on Kalshi and a sportsbook. However, it’s important to remember that sportsbooks and this market have different risk profiles and cater to different types of bettors.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing their beliefs about the final spread. The price of these contracts fluctuates based on supply and demand, driven by traders’ predictions. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This means that as more traders believe one team will win by a certain margin, the price of contracts reflecting that outcome will increase. The current price reflects the market’s aggregate expectation of the spread between the two New York teams.
This market resolves around Oct 7, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final spread will be determined by the actual point difference between the two New York teams at the conclusion of the game. The market will settle to 100 if the spread is exactly as predicted, and proportionally to the difference if the actual spread deviates from the predicted value. Traders will be able to claim their winnings or fulfill their obligations after the resolution is finalized.
Several factors could influence this market before it resolves. Any news regarding injuries to key players on either team would likely cause significant movement. Changes in coaching strategies, weather forecasts, or even public sentiment—reflected in polls or media coverage—could also impact trading activity. Unexpected announcements related to team performance or player availability are also catalysts. As the game approaches, any late-breaking news will have an increasingly pronounced effect on the price of contracts in this market.
