If the race is canceled, or is postponed to a date more than two days after November 1, 2026, this market will resolve to "Other". The primary resolution source will be the official results published by New York Road Runners (NYRR); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and may adjust them based on betting action, but they also incorporate a profit margin. This market, driven by individual traders on Polymarket, aims to represent the collective belief about the likelihood of each runner winning. Discrepancies between prediction market prices and sportsbook odds can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders attempt to profit from the difference in perceived value.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in a particular runner winning. As more shares are purchased for a specific runner, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher implied probability of success. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven by supply and demand, meaning that if many traders believe a runner has a good chance of winning, they will buy shares, driving up the price. Conversely, if traders lose confidence, they will sell, lowering the price.
This market resolves around Nov 2, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on the official results published by the New York City Marathon organizers, identifying the top-finishing American male athlete. The platform will verify the results against these official sources to determine the winning share(s) in this market. It’s important to note that the resolution process relies on publicly available and verifiable data, ensuring a transparent and objective outcome.
