Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the actual outcome. If sportsbook odds suggest a clear favorite, this market might show a more nuanced view if traders believe the favorite is overvalued. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of the prediction market, where odds adjust continuously based on new information and trading activity. It's a useful comparison point for informed decision-making.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in each possible outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular result, its price increases, and the probability rises accordingly. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information, analysis, and their overall assessment of the event. This creates a dynamic and responsive pricing system.
