Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may also incorporate a margin for profit. This market, driven by individual traders on Polymarket, can sometimes offer more accurate probabilities, especially as the event approaches and more information surfaces. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, access to information, or simply the dynamic nature of a decentralized market. It's often useful to compare both to gain a more comprehensive understanding of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each exact score. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust to reflect the collective intelligence of the market. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price, and the greater the implied probability. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date predictions.
