Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks typically set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market allows participants to directly express their beliefs about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise from differing levels of expertise among market participants versus sportsbook analysts, or from the influence of public perception and biases. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially leading to odds that diverge from, or converge with, those offered by sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants. The current price of shares indicates what traders, as a group, believe is the likelihood of a specific player winning the MODUS Super Series darts match.
