Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. Often, prediction markets can be more accurate than traditional polls or expert opinions, as they incentivize participants to express their true beliefs. However, it's important to note that both sources have their strengths and weaknesses, and discrepancies can arise due to differing information or biases.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price reflects the collective assessment of all participants, constantly adjusting to new information and changing sentiment surrounding the Mitchell vs Harrysson match.
