Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on statistical models and attempt to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by the collective intelligence of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. As a result, prediction market prices can sometimes diverge from sportsbook lines, potentially offering value to informed bettors who identify discrepancies. It’s important to consider both sources of information when making predictions.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, signaling growing confidence in that outcome. Conversely, increased selling pressure lowers the price, indicating waning confidence. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective prediction.
