Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individuals making their own predictions and expressing them through trades. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Comparing these odds can provide a broader understanding of the perceived probabilities and potential value in different outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a growing expectation of that result. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price, indicating decreasing confidence. The current price reflects the aggregated view of all traders participating in this market.
