Often, prediction market odds can differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks, reflecting the wisdom of the crowd and potentially incorporating information not yet fully priced into sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set initial odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade based on their own insights. This can lead to discrepancies, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. It's common to see prediction markets react more quickly to breaking news or changes in perceived probabilities than traditional betting venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome will happen, the higher the share price will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, offering a real-time assessment of the event's potential results. The current price indicates the market's aggregated forecast.
