Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of supply and demand within the prediction market. If significant differences exist, it may suggest that the crowd perceives probabilities differently than the sportsbook, potentially highlighting undervalued or overvalued outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities as the event approaches, reflecting the aggregated intelligence of the crowd.
