Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. If a significant difference emerges, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both platforms. However, it’s important to note that prediction markets are forward-looking and can incorporate information faster than sportsbooks, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a specific outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of shares in this market is determined by supply and demand, and the total volume traded provides insight into the market’s confidence in each potential result. Currently, the total volume for this market is $184.
