Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, with prediction markets sometimes offering more favorable odds, especially when there's disagreement with the wider public. It’s important to note that prediction markets benefit from the wisdom of the crowd, potentially leading to more accurate predictions as more information becomes available. However, sportsbooks often adjust quickly to new information, so both sources can be valuable.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome.
