Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often incorporating information and analysis beyond what’s readily available to traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert opinions, this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, potentially leading to odds that more accurately predict the outcome. It's common to see differences emerge as new information becomes available or as public sentiment shifts, though the degree of divergence can vary significantly depending on the event and market attention.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders adjust their positions based on new information, analysis, and their own risk tolerance, driving the price up or down. This dynamic process ensures that the market price continually reflects the collective intelligence of those trading on Polymarket.
