Frequently asked questions

Often, prediction market odds, like those for this market, can differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the wisdom of the crowd effect. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and incorporate a profit margin, while prediction markets reflect the collective beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, they can influence the price on Polymarket, potentially leading to discrepancies. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform traditional odds, especially when there's strong public interest and available information.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants on Polymarket, creating a dynamic and evolving assessment of the event’s potential results. This differs from fixed-odds betting, as the odds adjust based on real-time trading activity.
