Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Predict, often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the differing incentives and information sources. Sportsbooks set odds to maximize profit, incorporating a margin for themselves, while prediction markets are driven by the wisdom of the crowd. This market’s odds reflect what traders believe the true probability of each exact score is, potentially incorporating information not yet fully priced into sportsbook lines. Generally, prediction markets can offer more accurate probabilities, particularly as the event approaches and volume increases, but discrepancies can still exist.
Polymarket and Predict can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Price discrepancies between Polymarket and Predict for this market can occur for several reasons. Each platform has its own user base, trading dynamics, and risk appetite, leading to differing opinions on the probabilities. Additionally, the volume traded on each platform can influence price discovery; a larger volume on one platform may lead to a more efficient and accurate price.
