Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates the collective predictions of many individuals. These differences can arise due to varying levels of information, biases, or simply differing interpretations of the same data. It's common to observe that prediction markets are more accurate in forecasting event outcomes, especially when there's significant public interest and trading activity.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more traders believe Middlesbrough will score first, the price of those shares increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment among traders.
