Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by a small team of experts, while this market is driven by a larger, more decentralized group. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. Examining both can provide a more comprehensive understanding of the perceived probabilities surrounding the game’s outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the evolving consensus. The current volume traded demonstrates the level of interest and confidence in the various potential results of the game.
