Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially differing from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and the need to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven purely by individuals willing to buy or sell based on their own assessment of the likely outcome. Therefore, discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the event. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders can buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the market’s current expectation of that outcome’s probability. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to find an equilibrium point where buyers and sellers agree. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing mechanism means that the odds are constantly evolving based on supply and demand, offering a real-time assessment of the event’s potential results. Trading volume is a key indicator of confidence in a particular outcome.
