Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market aggregates the views of many individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making, but remember that each represents a distinct form of forecasting.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous, decentralized exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, creating a dynamic and responsive forecast.
