Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring profit regardless of the outcome, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of each player winning. Therefore, discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, analytical approaches, and the influence of public opinion. It’s common to see this market incorporate information and insights that aren't immediately reflected in initial sportsbook lines, especially as new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined by the collective actions of all participants, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event's likelihood. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the latest consensus view on the Melisek vs. Hanacek match.
