This market focuses on predicting which team will score more points in a specific quarter of a college football game between Maryland and Ohio State. It reflects the competitive dynamics of the game and allows participants to speculate on short-term performance. The outcome depends solely on the third quarter's scoring, not the overall game result.
The market resolves based on which team scores more points in the third quarter of the Maryland vs Ohio State college football game scheduled for October 10, 2026. If Ohio State scores the most points in that quarter, the market resolves to Yes for Ohio State. If Maryland scores the most points, the market resolves to Yes for Maryland. If both teams score the same number of points, the market resolves to Yes for the Tie outcome. For any game postponements, if play begins within 48 hours of the original start time, the market remains active and resolves based on the official result. If the game does not start within 48 hours of its scheduled time, the market resolves to a fair price. Only points scored during the third quarter count toward the outcome determination.
Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven by individuals trading based on their own analysis. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both platforms. However, it's important to remember that prediction markets are forward-looking and incorporate information quickly, potentially leading to different probabilities than those offered by sportsbooks.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell contracts representing the probability of each outcome. As more people buy contracts for a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. Conversely, selling contracts lowers the price. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a contract represents how much it costs to hold one unit of exposure to that outcome, and it fluctuates based on supply and demand. This dynamic pricing mechanism aims to accurately reflect the collective beliefs of the traders.
This market resolves around Oct 10, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the winner of the third quarter of the Maryland vs Ohio State game will be used to determine the winning contract. The platform will rely on official game results to determine the winner, and the outcome will be publicly available. Traders holding the winning contract will be paid out according to the final market price at resolution.
Several factors could influence this market before it resolves. Any news regarding player injuries, changes in coaching strategy, or even weather conditions could shift the perceived probabilities. Unexpected performance in earlier parts of the game, or even pre-game analysis from sports commentators, could also move the market. Furthermore, large-volume trades from informed individuals could indicate new information or a change in sentiment, causing significant price fluctuations. Monitoring these signals can provide insights into how the market is evolving.
