It’s common to see differences between prediction market odds and those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often set their odds to attract balanced betting action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities might arise, where traders can profit by betting on both venues. However, it's important to remember that prediction markets are forward-looking and can incorporate information not yet reflected in sportsbook odds.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the event's potential results.
