Prediction market odds, like those found on this market, often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the nature of how they are determined. Sportsbooks set lines based on internal models and aim to balance action on both sides, while prediction markets are driven by the collective opinions of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. This can lead to prediction markets being more efficient at incorporating new information and reflecting true probabilities. However, factors like liquidity and market awareness can also create discrepancies between the two.
Polymarket and Predict can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Price discrepancies between Polymarket and Predict on this market can arise from several factors. Differences in user base, trading activity, and market-making strategies all contribute to variations in price discovery. Polymarket may attract a different type of trader than Predict, leading to differing interpretations of the same information. Furthermore, the liquidity and volume on each platform can influence price movements, as smaller markets are more susceptible to price swings from individual trades. These dynamics create opportunities for arbitrage, but also explain why prices aren’t always identical across venues.
