Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often aligning with, but sometimes diverging from, traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, they can take the opposite position, driving the price on Polymarket in a different direction. This dynamic can lead to prediction markets being more accurate than sportsbooks, particularly as the event approaches and more information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price fluctuates based on supply and demand; if more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. This creates a dynamic pricing system that continuously updates as new information and opinions emerge regarding the Piros vs Sanchez match.
