Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the result. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply a larger and more diverse pool of participants. It's common to see this market move independently of sportsbook odds, especially as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the changing consensus. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. Higher demand for a particular outcome drives up its price, indicating greater confidence in its likelihood, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date predictions.
