Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and often differ from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their risk, while this market allows traders to express their own independent assessments. As more information becomes available – such as updated player statistics or news about potential injuries – the odds on Polymarket may move in ways that diverge from, or converge with, those found at traditional sportsbooks. It’s common to see prediction markets incorporate information faster than sportsbooks, leading to potentially more accurate probabilities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts accordingly, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and isn’t influenced by external factors or other prediction venues.
