Prediction market odds, such as those found for this market, often reflect a more nuanced and aggregated view of potential outcomes than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their own risk, while prediction markets are driven by the collective wisdom of traders who have skin in the game. This can lead to differences, particularly as new information emerges. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on team statistics and expert opinions, this market incorporates real-time sentiment and insights from a diverse group of participants, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities as the event approaches.
Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Price discrepancies between Polymarket and Kalshi often arise due to differing user bases, trading activity, and market-making strategies. Each platform attracts a unique set of participants with varying risk appetites and information sets, which can influence how they value the same outcome. Furthermore, the liquidity and order book dynamics on each platform can contribute to price divergence. For example, Polymarket might see heavier trading on one side of the market, while Kalshi experiences more balanced activity. These factors can lead to temporary or sustained price differences, even for the same underlying event.
