Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like promotional offers or biases, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If sportsbook odds significantly differ from those seen on Polymarket, it could indicate disagreement about the likely outcome or differing interpretations of player form and other relevant factors. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before a significant amount of trading occurs on Polymarket.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a player will win, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and collective sentiment.
