Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, while this market aggregates the views of many individual traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of trading. If a significant difference exists between the odds on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks, it might indicate that the market believes a different outcome is more likely, or that sportsbooks haven’t fully incorporated recent information. It's always useful to compare both to form your own informed opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and isn't influenced by external factors or a central authority setting the price.
