Frequently asked questions

Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin for themselves, while Polymarket allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of each outcome. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly when there's strong public sentiment or information asymmetry. It’s important to remember that prediction markets aggregate the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a more accurate forecast than individual sportsbook lines, though this isn't always the case.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each candidate winning the M25 Tamworth election. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a candidate will win, the higher the price of shares associated with that candidate will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants.

This market resolves around Nov 2, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the official results declared by the relevant electoral authorities for the M25 Tamworth election. The candidate who receives the most votes will be declared the winner, and that outcome will determine the settlement of this market. Traders who correctly predicted the winning candidate will receive a payout based on the odds at the time of their trade.

Several signals and events could significantly impact this market before Nov 2, 2026. Major policy announcements from either candidate, significant endorsements, or unexpected shifts in public opinion revealed through polling data could all cause price movements. Any controversies or scandals involving either candidate would likely influence trading activity. Furthermore, changes in voter turnout expectations or external events affecting the constituency could also play a role in shaping the market’s predictions. Monitoring these factors will be crucial for understanding potential shifts in the probabilities reflected in this market.
