Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own models and to balance their risk, while this market’s pricing is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies, particularly before significant events or when new information emerges. Analyzing these differences can offer insights into public perception and potential value opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions prove correct. The current market price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all traders participating in the market.
