Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates a wider range of information and subjective viewpoints. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially early in the market’s lifecycle. Examining these differences can be insightful, as prediction markets sometimes anticipate outcomes that diverge from initial sportsbook assessments, though this is not always the case.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. Conversely, increased selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing system aims to provide a real-time assessment of the event’s likelihood based on the collective intelligence of the market participants.
