Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information and incentives. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If there’s a significant discrepancy, it may indicate that the crowd believes a sportsbook has mispriced the probability of a particular event. It’s important to compare both to form your own informed opinion about the potential result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of the traders participating, offering a forward-looking assessment of the match’s potential result.
