Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of prediction markets. It’s common to see prediction market prices shift more rapidly in response to new information or changing sentiment than sportsbook odds, as this market is continuously updated by traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous, decentralized exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will rise, and vice versa. This creates a dynamic pricing mechanism that reflects the collective intelligence of the crowd.
