Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own research and information. If there's a significant discrepancy, it may indicate that the market believes the sportsbook has mispriced the event. It’s important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, but are formed through different mechanisms and may appeal to different types of bettors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a particular player will win, the higher the price of shares representing that player’s victory will climb. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants and their evolving assessment of the match’s potential results.
