Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, being driven by the collective wisdom of traders, tends to reflect more purely the perceived probability of an outcome. However, discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in market participants. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, potentially offering more accurate probabilities as the event approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the event's likelihood. The current price indicates what traders are willing to pay for a unit of probability regarding the Kivattsev vs Ivanov match.
