Prediction market odds often offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their risk and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the aggregate wisdom of crowd predictions. If a significant difference emerges between the odds on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks, it could indicate disagreement about the likely outcome. This discrepancy might stem from differing information sources, analytical approaches, or simply the influence of public opinion. It is important to consider both sources when forming your own assessment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts accordingly. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction venues. This creates a dynamic and responsive pricing system based on collective intelligence.
