Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own research and information. If there’s a significant discrepancy, it may indicate that the market believes a sportsbook has mispriced the event. It’s important to note that prediction markets often incorporate information faster than sportsbooks, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities as the event approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants. The current implied probability of a particular outcome is visible directly on the Polymarket dashboard.
