Generally, prediction markets like this one often reflect information and insights that differ from traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set odds based on statistical models and public perception, this market incorporates a wider range of information, including on-the-ground reporting, expert analysis, and the collective wisdom of informed traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing methodologies, access to information, and the incentives of participants. It’s common to see prediction market odds move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbook odds.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular candidate, the price increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, creating a real-time assessment of the election’s likely result.
