Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market’s odds are determined by supply and demand. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially early in the market lifecycle, as prediction markets can incorporate information and analysis not immediately reflected in sportsbook lines. Examining these differences can be valuable for identifying potential value opportunities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the event's likelihood. The current price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all participants trading on Polymarket.
