Prediction market odds often differ from those found at traditional sportsbooks due to the differing incentives and information sources of participants. Sportsbooks set odds to maximize profit, while prediction market traders are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. This can lead to prediction markets reflecting a 'wisdom of the crowd' effect, potentially offering more accurate probabilities, especially as the event approaches. However, sportsbook odds can still provide a useful benchmark for comparison, and discrepancies may present arbitrage opportunities for informed traders in this market.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust based on the collective intelligence of the participants, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the Munkhammar vs Meng match.
