Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on internal models and may adjust them based on betting action, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If sportsbooks heavily favor one player, but the crowd in this market believes the match is closer, you'll see a divergence in the implied probabilities. It’s common to observe prediction markets being more accurate than sportsbook lines, particularly when information asymmetry exists or public sentiment differs from expert analysis.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all traders involved, constantly updating as new information becomes available.
