Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and may adjust them based on betting action, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individuals. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant news or events impact perceptions of the likely outcome. Examining these differences can offer insights into where the market believes sportsbooks may be over or underestimating probabilities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, with higher prices indicating greater confidence. The market’s price is determined by the forces of supply and demand; as more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of its participants.
