Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their risk and ensure profit, incorporating a 'vig' or commission. This market, however, is driven purely by the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. As a result, the odds on Polymarket may reflect a more accurate assessment of probabilities, especially when a significant amount of volume is traded. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of each market.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence regarding the Mumbai M25 match.
